For Christmas at NewSpring, I was tasked with creating a brand for a 4-week live event series on the story of Christmas found in the Book of Matthew of the Christian scriptures. The tone words I was given were "warmth," "hope," and "whimsy." I created hand-drawn textures with fluid strokes and lots of movement to demonstrate whimsy and warmth. I also created an illustration meant to abstractly represent the North star that the main characters follow in the story, with vibrant colors and fluid brush strokes to demonstrate the hope that these characters had. It was a fun challenge, as I needed to create two looks for the brand: one for the weeks leading up to the Christmas event and another for the Christmas event itself.
For the three weeks leading up to the Christmas event, there was a separate look for that section of the series, called "Story of Joy." To differentiate them, I created a separate color palette and textures. For the Christmas event services called "Christmas at NewSpring," I created a red and green look for a more retro Christmas vibe. I also needed to create illustrations of the story from the Book of Matthew that would be on the LED screens across campuses during the event. Below is the style guide for the series, LED screen content, and print piece that I created for this holiday series.
